Will Covid reduce the number of births in the world?

The birth of a child because of covid has not been as wonderful as it used to be. Mother stays at Castle Hospital to have the baby, but only one person goes to see her. I have to go and visit my mother from outside like a counter and come and talk. Due to the covid regulations in government hospitals, the opportunity to go to the family and speak a word to comfort the mother has been lost. In Sri Lanka, there is no idea whether the number of births has decreased or increased due to covid. But the World Health Organization suspects that the number of births is declining globally.

1. Google search is down

Nowadays in the US and Europe, when it comes to pregnancy symptoms, parents google exactly what those pregnancy symptoms are. Google has stated that the search for birthmarks has decreased significantly during this pandemic period. In the United States alone, the birth rate is projected to fall by 15% by 2021.

2. Covid difficulties

Because of covid, the economic situation of people all over the world has deteriorated. Lost jobs. Allowances for existing jobs have also decreased. Some people's salaries have been reduced. The jobs of those in the tourism and transport sectors are at high risk. Before having a baby, many people try to maintain a stable economy. So many young parents may not see this as a good time to have a baby, with the economic pressures of covid.

3. Difficulties in health services

Even though the government of our country provides all health services, patients have to suffer due to Covid. Covid has made health insurance systems and even hospital systems in other countries busier. During this time there is a risk that the Covid will spread through maternity homes etc. Accordingly, mothers do not see this as a good time to have children with the difficulties of going to health services and clinics.

4. Increased birth rate in the Philippines

In the Philippines, the number of births has increased during this period. Their long lockdown conditions have made it difficult for couples to find condoms and other methods of birth control. As a result, many sudden pregnancies have occurred due to the inability to find birth control methods. As a result, maternity hospitals are overcrowded and there is a risk of Covid spreading through the Philippines, reports say. In many developed countries, however, the opposite is true.

5. Minimize the occurrence of couples

In order to have children, two people have to have sex for that purpose. Having sex as a human being is a cultural event. This pairing is limited with the Covid condition. Even in our countries, meetings, parties, etc. are limited due to the distance caused by maintaining social distance on buses, trains and everywhere. The decrease in the number of new couples has the effect of reducing the number of births due to Covid.

6. Historical decline

During the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the world's birth rate had plummeted. As a result, in 1919 the number of births had dropped. Then, during World War II, childbirth was restricted. History has shown that the number of births is reduced during this epidemic, which is different from a normal disaster. Countries like Japan and Spain are currently suffering due to the low birth rate in the world. Lack of children to accept the future in those countries is a problem. If the number of births decreases due to the Covid condition, it will affect those countries even more severely.

7. The situation in poor countries

It is still difficult to conclude whether the number of births in poor countries will increase or decrease. Because unlike developed countries, people in those countries see problems. Nowadays it's time to spend more time at home with relatives. Some parents may think that this is the best time to have a baby. And for some as a baby gets older, he or she will outgrow this. So they may be tempted to think of having a child, let alone financial and other hardships. Birth rates throughout the world have dropped dramatically already. But in countries like ours, there is still no definite evidence of an increase or decrease in the number of births.

There is still hope for an end to this epidemic. The question is whether the lives of the people will be able to recover in 2021 even after the end of the epidemic. Scientists say that it will take some time for the newborns to recover. Expenses for families already having children around the world have increased. Although education has become an online medium, it has added another weight to the pocket around the world. And for some as a baby gets older, he or she will outgrow this. This shows that the Covid 19 virus has become a problem not only in the lungs of those who develop it, but also in the birth of newborns.
